Photo Friday Numero 2

Just because I'm feeling super generous-and because the little one is taking a nap-I'm going to post Amy's second photshop question.
*If I have a green shirt on and want to change it's color can I do that?*

The tool you'll need to use for this is called the color replacement tool-it's hiding under the brush tool and is in gray on the picture to right. (Any tool that has the black triangle in the corner has more options below it)

First open the image you're going to work on. I'm going to use an example from a family picture I took last summer. Two of the girls were in shirts that didn't match the rest of the group. You need to use the eye dropper tool (below the star in the image to the right) to sample the color you want the shirt to be. I'm going to take the sample from the brown sweater right next to the girl in the green.

Once I have my sample I carefully start painting the green shirt with the color replacement tool. Notice the color isn't exactly the same as the brown sweater next to her-and a lot of time you can't paint the shirt a different color-for example they wanted the girl in yellow to have a red shirt, but it looked more hot pink than red-so while this tool works it's not perfect.

Now that the green shirt is taken care of I'll move onto the yellow shirt. Just for kicks I've done half her shirt red taken from her moms shirt next to her and half of it blue taken from the buy holding the baby below her.

Remember if you want to see the images bigger just click on them. I just did this really fast so it's kind of sloppy. Remember to re-size your brush to get in to the smaller areas.

Now I need the question for next week-remember it can be any photoshop or photography question you can think of.

Photo Friday

I'm so glad that Amy asked a photoshop question because I wasn't sure what I was going to start out with for the first tip.

Here's the question she asked: Can I remove a person from the background?
Before I start I have to tell you that I have photoshop CS2, not all of the versions may have the "tools" I'll be explaining with.

There are also a couple things you should always do when editing a picture

1-Save a COPY and work on the copy not the original-that way you can always go back and start over if you mess up.
2-Use layers to your advantage-if you don't want to start from scratch make a new layer and make the changes you want to the layer-that way if you don't like it you can just delete the layer.
3-Save and save often-you never know when the program is going to quit unexpectedly.

The two main tools you're going to use to remove anything from a picture (i.e. people, objects, zits, wrinkles, etc) are the CLONE STAMP and the HEALING BRUSH.

In the picture to left the CLONE STAMP is gray and the HEALING BRUSH is right above it. Below is the picture I'm going to remove people from. I just want this swimming hole to look like I was there by myself.

First you have to take a sample right next to the area you're going to be deleting the person from. Once you've taken the sample area simply move the CLONE tool over the spot you want removed. If it needs a little touch up use the HEALING BRUSH to help smooth things over.

*click on the image above to see it larger*.
Continue taking sample areas until everything you want removed is taken out.

Add your finishing touches and you're done!
